Overview of HELPix
The HELPix, or HELP pictograms, intervention was designed to facilitate accurate medication dosing and/or adherence by directly addressing the communication needs of parents and caregivers with low literacy and limited English proficiency.
The intervention, which includes the use of plain language, pictogram-based medication instruction sheets, was developed though Bellevue’s Health Education and Literacy for Parents (HELP) project, a waiting room health education project which grew out of Bellevue’s Reach Out and Read Program, a project designed to promote parent-child reading activity among caregivers with low literacy.
